Breaking news...Launceston's Richie Porte has blown away the Tour of Romandie field to take the 3rd stage individual time trial by 26 seconds!!
The win has elevated Porte to 7th (from 93rd yesterday) on the overall classification and puts him into the mix for the overall win. It should mean that we see Rithcie's TEAM SAXOBANK will now elevate him to team leader for the remainder of the race and we are now likely to see SAXOBANK spending more time near the front of the race. If someone had told Portey 12 months ago he would find himself as his teams GC main man in a major stage race..???
This is Portey first major professional win and it should also ensure that SAXOBANK look to retain his services for next year and beyond, but it should also seal his place in the team for first of the upcoming grand tours - The giro'd itlalia.
